On Guns and Hunting

That Nice Girl I Married bought a hand gun this summer, and we have been out shooting it a few times.  I have discovered that this is a fun and enjoyable activity.  The other day, a federal agent in our ward went with us and taught us a lot about proper hand gun shooting techniques.  This got me to thinking: perhaps I should buy a rifle and go hunting for my own meat.  So I went out shopping for a deer rifle recently, and found a Savage brand that is to my liking.  It is also not terribly expensive.

Someone else in the ward has promised to take me deer hunting in the fall, which is great.  I know nothing about it, but if I am going to be a true carnivore, I need to hunt my own meat.  My daughters have been eating a lot of elk and moose that my brother shot, and it is a good source of protein for poor students on a budget.  It is also fairly healthy meat, as it is grass fed and without any added chemicals.

  1. Also, hunted meat is treated a lot more humanely (in life and death) than the meat that we get in grocery stores. I'm not exactly an animal-rights advocate, but I do think that we should treat them well as they are also creations of God.

  2. OK, so I've read your entire blog. SO INTERESTING! Pam has been very successful on LCD in the past and has kept her weight off much longer this time. I'm assuming we have much of the same genetic make-up and since I too have metabolic syndrome, I'm going to give it a try. I have a bloodwork recheck in 3 months, so I should get a pretty good idea if it works for me. I've never actually lost weight on a diet, per se. In the past 9 years, I gained and then lost about 20-25 lbs, mostly due to medication changes. I'm going to be better about checking my blood sugar, too.

  3. Laura, get and read Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes. That will help you more than any thing else. I felt like a convert reading the Book of Mormon for the first time. It will really help a lot.

  4. Eliza, a great comment. Vegitarians need to remember that agriculture kills a lot of animals when planting and harvesting grain, mostly mice and other small animals. Being a vegan requires animals to die.
